Vitorchiano, in Viterbo, celebrates his beloved patron, St. Michael the Archangel, on 8 May and the following days. The town dresses up for ten days, in which, in honor of the saint, religious moments alternate with meetings and folk music entertainment and convivial.
Two are the most important religious moments: the torchlight procession to the Shrine of St. Michael the Archangel and the May 8, the following Sunday, the procession, to the sanctuary itself, with the statue of the saint, accompanied by religious authorities, civil and military, from brotherhoods with Cristi and distinctive lanterns adorned with flowers, from banda musical "faithful Vitorchiano" and many of the faithful.
The Saturday before the procession is customary to make the Resting, an authentic outing at the shrine, which is necessary to achieve walking along a dirt path that starts from the center of town, perched on a sheer cliff of lava stone on two ditches that have created the valley below, and go down a slope where, hidden by lush vegetation, is the fourteenth-century sanctuary. The resting involves many inhabitants of the country and is an opportunity to taste the famous donuts with aniseed typical of the area, offered by "Festaroli".
During the festival the religious aims of Porchetta Festival, the fireworks show, performances of the band and majorettes, extraction of Bingo, the "Minstrels of Rome," Dance in the square, Piazza games for children, lottery drawing, and gathering of campers.
